Two educators, two decades of classrooms between them — one grounded in Finland's education system, the other in bringing it to schools far from Helsinki.
Anna Hart, M.Ed, is a Finnish educator with over twenty years of international teaching experience across Finland, Sweden, Norway, Kenya, England, the UAE, Qatar, and India.
A former IB Diploma student herself, she has spent the majority of her career teaching and leading within the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, most recently as a principal, bringing both a learner's and a leader's perspective to everything she does.
Anna's expertise centres on early literacy, phonics, and laying the foundations for long-term academic success in young learners. She is a specialist in differentiation, with a particular focus on ensuring every child builds a strong phonics foundation regardless of their starting point. Her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Oulu and her Certificate in Educational Administration from the Finnish National Agency of Education underpin a career grounded equally in classroom practice and educational leadership.
Deeply connected to Finland's educational culture, Anna has been involved in a phenomenon-based learning project commissioned by the Education Department of Helsinki, has served as a visiting lecturer on inquiry and phenomenon-based pedagogies, and was interviewed by Michael Moore for his documentary about Finnish education, Where to Invade Next. She is the creator of Lex Phonics, a systematic synthetic phonics series built around Lex the Lynx, designed to give every child access to the same adventure at their own level — from early readers to those ready for more advanced challenge. Developed from years of classroom experience with multilingual and mixed-attainment learners, it is available through Hart Education Consultancy.
John Hart is a British educator with nearly twenty years of international teaching and digital learning experience across the UK, Finland, the UAE, Qatar, and India.
Since 2017 he has held senior leadership roles in educational technology integration, most recently as Director of Digital Learning and Innovation at Finland International School in Mumbai.
A significant thread running through John's career is the mentoring and professional development of teachers. In Finland he delivered training to Helsinki city schools and Finnish state schools as an Apple Professional Learning Specialist, and worked across five schools in India designing structured programmes to help teachers integrate technology purposefully into their practice. As Mentor Teacher at Finland International School, Thane, he supported local Indian educators in adopting Finnish curriculum approaches, a role that sits at the heart of what Hart Education Consultancy exists to do.
Based in Finland and deeply embedded in its education system since 2008, John brings first-hand knowledge of what makes Finnish pedagogy distinctive and how its principles can be meaningfully adapted for other contexts. He is one of the first seven Apple Distinguished Educators selected from Finland, an Apple Professional Learning Specialist, and was shortlisted in the final five of Finland's Suomen digiosaavin opettaja, a national award judged on pedagogically effective use of technology in teaching. His writing on the Finnish system has appeared in the Guardian.
John is also the developer of PHAT, a phonics assessment and remediation tool originally built to meet the needs of his own classroom. Recognising its wider potential, he is now making it available to other schools and teachers through Hart Education Consultancy.
